JEREZ SHOWDOWN: Herrera leads Neila by six points as 2025 WorldWCR campaign finishes with title decider

Thursday, 16 October 2025 08:11 GMT

Two races to go, 50 points available… but just six separating the top two after five rounds as WorldWCR braces for another title showdown

The FIM Women’s Circuit Racing World Championship heads to the Circuito de Jerez – Angel Nieto, Andalucia for the final round of an unforgettable campaign. Maria Herrera (Klint Forward Racing Team) and Beatriz Neila (Ampito Crescent Yamaha) have been the top two all season but the title will be decided at the Pirelli Spanish Round. It’s advantage Herrera, but anything can happen in a season finale…

WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN TO BE CROWNED CHAMPION? Herrera holds a slim advantage

Both riders will be aiming to close 2025 as Champion and, for Herrera, it’s simple: don’t lose seven or more points (as any tiebreaker that comes into effect could go Neila’s way) across the weekend, while Neila needs to outscore the #6 by seven or more points. Herrera has experience of title showdowns at Jerez, after being involved in the 2024 battle with Ana Carrasco, and this year she’ll hope to claim the Championship after missing out last season.

BATTLING FOR BRONZE: Ponziani vs Jones vs Sanchez

Roberta Ponziani (Klint Forward Racing Team) currently sits P3 in the standings with a slender lead over 2025 revelation Chloe Jones (GR Motosport), with the Brit’s form in the last few rounds – four P2 finishes on the bounce – allowing her to close the gap to the Italian. Jones made her debut here last year, with two-top six finishes, while Ponziani was top four in both races last season at Jerez. Sara Sanchez (Terra & Vita GRT Yamaha WorldWCR Team) is 23 points behind Ponziani and mathematically has a chance of P3 overall, although the Spaniard will need to pass a pre-round medical check after suffering metacarpal fractures in her left hand at Magny-Cours.

FIGHTING IN THE TOP TEN: Boudesseul aims to clinch P6 under fierce pressure from Ruiz

Lucie Boudesseul (GMT94-YAMAHA) has had an impressive rookie campaign and finds herself sixth in the standings with 87 points. She trails Sanchez by 24 points so perhaps snatching a P5 Championship finish is unlikely, if the #64 is able to race, but she’s locked in a battle with Pakita Ruiz (PR46+1 Racing Team) with just seven points separating them. Avalon Lewis (Carl Cox Motorsport) sits eighth on 72 points with Astrid Madrigal (Pons Italika Racing FIMLA) and Talya Relph (Full Throttle Racing) completing the top ten.

WILDCARDS AND RIDER LINE-UP NEWS: Different names on the grid

Tara Morrison makes a return to WorldWCR for her second appearance of the season, this time at Carl Cox Motorsport in place of Billee Fuller. There are two wildcards on the grid at Jerez. Paolo Ramos will compete for the first time with YVS Sabadell as the Spaniard makes her debut on home soil, while there’s a return to action for Iryna Nadieieva; she last raced in WorldWCR at Portimao in 2024. Elsewhere, Emily Bondi (Zelos Trasimeno) will need to pass a pre-round medical check in order to race at Jerez.
